My experience at

ITP Media Group

3 publications, 320+ by-lines, youngest freelancer at the firm for one year

This was my very first experience as an intern not only in the media field but also generally. I had an thrilling and insightful one-year journey at the company but most importantly It helped me grow as a person.

ITP Media Group represents over 20 different publishing's including Middle East Beauty. When I started working for the beauty-based magazine, zero to little knowledge of editorial writing and the use of SEO software's to publish articles. I was fortunate enough to be mentored by Claudia de Brito, a powerful writer that I look up to. She believed in my potential - in writing, networking and social media. I was also able to write for the magazine itself. Having my name printed on something so official felt unreal to me - you could say I was on could nine!

Hotelier Middle East

Hotelier Middle East was something that we shifted to instantly. This was by far my best time at the publishing house. I opened my network to more than just my superior and was able to make friends for a lifetime. This was also a big deal to me because I switched from writing 10 articles a week to 13 a day. I would also consider this my peak time because: one, the juggle between university work and this internship was intense but wild. Two, in just a matter of four months, I was able to take up a job as a freelancer. Three, I had the opportunity to meet professionals in the hotel industry and write for one of my professors too.

I also happened to go to a few brunches - gotta say, it was lavish! It was a rollercoaster ride but definitely worthwhile.

Digital Studio Middle East

Stepping out of my comfort zone was something I got used to, while my time at ITP Media. Digital Studio Middle East tackles film and TV production and broadcast based news. I was very new to the industry overall, but I found that writing for it with a bit of guidance from the sole editor in chief, Nikhil Pereira. I was also able to create an Instagram account for the brand which I think was a good decision and was highly appreciated.

We were able to grow a friendly bond, even if it was for two months. This helped me complete my one year at ITP Media.

Networking

I was also able to make some valuable friends such as Simon Ritchie, the editor in chief for Caterer Middle East, Hotelier ME's sister publication. Attending and covering the Caterer Middle East Awards function was a special adventure.

Contacting and regularly keeping in touch with PR consultants and professionals was also beneficial as I have now connected with them on LinkedIn.

I think one of my treasured and honorable moments, besides working (and taking back home some PR gifts) was meeting and having a pleasant cooking session with the Senior Area Vice President Middle East & Africa of the Radisson Hotel Group, Tim Cordon. Another great experience was featuring in the initial Arabian Business' Crossfire sessions hosted by Shruthi Nair, as an audience member.
