Miscellaneous
While I have focused on my work based purely on the three - advertising, branding and PR, I will also be sharing samples of other skills I acquired through media-specific projects that I think are worth noting. This includes primary and secondary research work, the types of analysis, the basics of video production as well as reflective writing.
ETHNOGRAPHY AND MARKET RESEARCH
During our course in Year 2, we learned more about ethical research work that included methodologies such as ethnography and netnography, email interviews, WhatsApp focus groups and much more. These are two group projects that involved the use of these research methods.
REFLECTIVE WRITING
Over the past two years, I have been able to express my how I feel about my contributions to group work through reflective writing. This was a great way to remember, realize and remind myself on what skills and personality traits I need to work on as well as identify their tacit knowledge as well as gaps in that knowledge. This acts as encouragement to grow as a professional in the media industry.
HULT PRIZE COMPETITION
One of the projects that I worked on along side two talented journalism students, was the Hult Prize competition. We were asked to develop a local startup that was ergonomic as well as sustainable. With help from our professor, we were able to come up with a PESTEL analysis, SWOT analysis, finances and schedule. We had to look at creative ways to initiate this business.
VIDEO PRODUCTION
Video production, as I have mentioned, is something that I wish to be good at and I am working towards it. I had the chance to produce a promotional video on Dubai with 5 team members. This included contacting various locations that were significant to Dubai, finding an objective and using the story-telling mechanism to develop a storyline and also be in charge of the minute ups and downs during production. I was also able to work on a storyboard for this particular advertisement.
LITERATURE REVIEWS
Literature Reviews is admittedly my least favourite thing about conducting research. Nevertheless, I deliver! I do believe that academic sources are helpful when it comes to developing a campaign or even composing brand guidelines or writing press releases. In these two cases, it helped me better understand the target audience and consumer behavior, which is a significant player in market research.
